Here Is The Secret To Living To Be 100-Years-old
BY J.S. VON DACRE
What is the real secret to a long and happy life? It is a question that people have been asking for hundreds of years. Scientists have theorized why some people live longer than others.
But perhaps the true key to longevity lies with those who have successfully attained this goal. Here are some words of wisdom from those who made it past the 100-year mark!
“I am always looking up towards the sky; that is how I am.” - Jiroemon Kimura (1897 – 2013: 116 years)
Kimura swore that his long life was due to his diet; he ate heathily and in small portions.
“Always keep your smile. That's how I explain my long life.” - Jeanne Calment (1875 – 1997: 122 years)
Calment remained active for most of her life, doing sports such as roller-skating, tennis, swimming and bicycling. When she was in her 80s, she even took up fencing.
After she passed away, her biographers commented that she was someone who was “immune to stress”.
"She does not get upset by anything. She takes things very calmly and she has been that way her whole life." – daughter of Maria Esther de Capovilla (1889 – 2006: 116 years)
It is said that Capovilla maintained a healthy lifestyle and would have three meals each day with a small glass of wine at lunchtime, but never had any other alcohol nor did she smoke.
"His wisdom is something I learned a lot from. His life is an example of how you're supposed to live your life, happily and doing good, for it will give you longevity and goodwill from everyone." – Iris Chacon on Emiliano Mercado del Toro (1891 – 2007: 115 years)
His family credits his long life to his laid back attitude and great sense of humour. Mercado once told a newspaper that he was in the brothel of the infamous madam, Isabel la Negra, when she was assassinated. He was 82-years-old and when asked what he was doing there, he replied, "Praying ... or at least I was when the bullets started flying!"
"He didn't need a lot to be happy." – Grandson on Fred Hale Sr (1890 – 2004: 113 years)
At the age of 95, American Hale Sr. was surfing as well as travelling across Europe. He claimed that his secret was raw honey and bee pollen.
It seems that perhaps the key to becoming a centenarian may lie in a good diet, remaining young at heart and to stop worrying about life!
