7 Tricks To Not Gain Weight Over Christmas
BY J.S. VON DACRE
We secretly hold our breath in wonderful anticipation for that dinner and the never-ending conveyor belt of sweets. At the same time, we loathe the potential weight gain that would see us confined to longer gym sessions.
Don’t worry–here are our 7 top tricks for beating the bulge this season!
Potassium balances the sodium in your body, which means you will have less water retention. Exchange some of the binge-eating snacks for a banana or a yogurt.
2. Sweet Potatoes
This season, opt for sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. They have fewer calories and carbs, not to mention they are rich in potassium!
3. Smaller Plates
Put those large plates away as they will encourage you to pile on mountains of food until you create a mini–Vesuvius.
4. Keep Calm And Take A Minute
Don’t rush in as soon as you hear the oven door open. Give yourself a moment to breathe and reconsider if you really need those ten slices of turkey.
5. Don’t Have Seconds
…Or thirds, or fourths. After you have eaten, take a few minutes and you may find that you are already quite full.
6. Chew slower
When you eat, hormones are released into your digestive system that causes you to feel full. If you eat too quickly, your body does not have enough time to “register” that it is no longer hungry.
7. Avoid Binge–TV
This is where the perils of binge-eating are born and it places you firmly on that slippery slope of “eating amnesia”. Go out for a walk or opt to do something other than sitting in front of the television for hours.
Falling victim to the temptation devil may not be completely avoidable. Yet, practicing some moderation means you get to start the New Year closer to the weight that you are right now. Let’s face it, no one wants to spend most of January in the gym.
...AND REMEMBER, IN-BETWEEN COURSES, JUST LIKE VENUS, CHECK HOW YOU LOOK IN THE JEWELLERY YOU CHOSE TO WEAR, IT WILL MAKE YOU THINK TWICE ABOUT OVER- EATING!
